Explore the majestic countryside of Cyprus and discover the country’s true identity and unique character.

 

The overall idea was to capture unique photographs from ALL the unoccupied villages/communities of Cyprus that creatively highlight beautiful landscapes, sceneries, customs and traditions, outside the country’s main cities.
In addition, some photographs focus on highlighting the human factor and the daily life/activities in Cyprus’s unique countryside. In this way, the Project helped to enhance the cultural and historical richness of Cyprus and to raise awareness of the diversity of the island’s villages.

It is worth noting that the project involves a group of students from the UCLan Cyprus’ BSc (Hons) Web Design & Development programme. The Lead Artist and Director of Explore Cyprus, Dr. Christos Karpasitis states: “This is a photographic narrative and wandering through all the known and unknown, unoccupied villages of Cyprus, through which the timeless charm, the distinct character, and the true identity of the country are revealed, as judged on the hidden paths of its beautiful countryside. This project is part of the wider effort and contribution of our University – UCLan Cyprus to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Cyprus, by utilising the power of arts and creative practices.”
